the perplexing joys of facebook...........

the reason why facebook is so popular is no longer a mystery to me. it's all in the status update. YES. i have figured it all out.

the genius lies in the third person; by talking about oneself in the third person, it makes one the CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE. which, we all surely can admit how self-centered the entire facebook/myspace phenom is. and that's fine and dandy, because if everyone's self centered then it's not self centered anymore. and we all definitely care about each other, and facebook is an active means of doing that.

anyway. i don't mean to sound negative. i think facebook is delightful and wonderful. just had a slight enigma. i guess that's my blog about my thoughts for now......;)

october loveliness!

i didn't realize until midway through the day that today is the first of october. which is delightful. up until lately i was dreading winter, but i have decided to embrace it as i don't have much of a say in the matter.

i ride a bicycle to work, nearly a mile. which is tough, but i truly do enjoy it most of the time. on my way home i smelled a wood stove; i would assume someone's firing theirs up (no pun intended harhar) as it was 45 degrees last night. and although the trees haven't changed colors AT ALL, i just got into one of my exuberant moods thinking about pumpkins and corduroy and halloween costumes etc. it was a fantastic ride home. i just thought i would put in writing how grateful i am to have had it.

life and death and customer service.

yesterday when i got home from work, i turned on the computer briefly only to read that bernie mac had died. he was 50 years old. it was pneumonia-related. shocking. my mother has had pneumonia for the past few months. she still has effects from it although she is mostly better......but it is just terrifying. she had it for over a month before anyone looked into the possibility that it was pneumonia (thanks rolla hospital...). and, at 66 years old, that is not good. people have assumed it was walking pneumonia because she refused to not "walk"/ work extremely hard........but that is just the way she is. she won't stop no matter how sick she is (i do the same thing). she had i believe a 103 degree fever for 2 months straight. anyway. now, i just got home and sat down and turned the computer on, and i see that isaac hayes has died suddenly at age 65. apparently next to a treadmill.

i have a friend at work whose husband is battling cancer (they're in their '30's).....and it nearly makes me vomit to have all this on my mind and get called names by people all day long every day just because mcdonald's workers are the scum of the earth and definitely the most ignorant life forms in the history of the world. there are so many bigger things to be worrying about. i don't want my friend lou to have to come back to work on a monday morning after a weekend of caring for her husband, only to be called "dumb bitch" all day long.

:(

i have lived enough life to know to be patient and empathetic and treat others the way i want to be treated and value every second i have on this earth. it is a shame that others aren't as insightful although they should be.

perhaps this is a disgusting blog.......i am worried that i have launched into a self-centered vent session when the big picture/moral of the story is what sent me off into this tirade...........sudden death and dramatic illness etc etc. oh well. i will have to post something cheery later. i guess i'm just ashamed that i let these petty (nonetheless degrading) things get me down when life is so much bigger than those little things. ....... ?
